Drawing is the foundation of my training. It was through drawing my great aunt, Angelina, that I came to the realization that the flesh is only an outer covering – like a costume. Later in life -- when I began painting religious icons – I realized I had stumbled upon the elements of icon-writing. The body is a container or vessel. The face is a mask with many veils. The invisible is resonant with the presence of spirit.
